“You’re
a Good Man, Charlie Brown”
(Revised 1998)
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
General note: all six characters display the mannerisms of children (or a dog,
in the case of Snoopy), but their delivery is alternately childlike and mature.
Remember that Peanuts humor is rooted in snappy come-backs and sardonic retorts.
Some dancing is required of all, although Linus and Snoopy each have a solo
dance.
Charlie Brown – a sweetly naïve loser; engaging, helpful, and hopelessly
optimistic. Baritone/tenor, low A, high F.
Snoopy – generally lazy, with bursts of manic energy; thoroughly engaged
in his life as a dog. Dancer/acrobat a plus. High baritone/tenor, low A, high
A.
Lucy – bossy,
self-centered, with no obvious saving grace … except the occasional unwitting
kindness. Mezzo/soprano with good belt, low G, high F#.
Linus – an
intellectual and philosopher, occasionally devious; but a good listener and
friend. A dancer. Baritone/tenor, low A, high E.
Sally – wide-eyed,
precocious, with a tendency toward crocodile tears or righteous indignation.
Soprano w/ good belt-mix, low B, high Bb.
Schroeder – single-minded and usually reserved, except for his passion for classical music; frequently exhibits a slow burn. High baritone/tenor, low A, high Ab.
